Too Big for Me!

A mother and her calf humpback whale off my stern... getting too close for fishing... way too big... I sure wouldn't want to snag one of them... or have them get tangled-up in my down riggers!
I'm outta here! Because they have been showing off all afternoon... breaching in unison... and I think they are getting too inqusitive of me.
I thought I was in real trouble once, when all of a sudden I ended up between the mother and her calf... I put on my lifejacket and prepared for the worst... I even put my finger on the Red Emergency GPS/VHF Radio button... ready to push it if they crashed into me! When they sounded, I didn't know where they were coming up... I sure got my gear up in a hurry and got out of there!

34 lb Halibut caught while bottom trolling at 30Ms... a ton of splashing fury! Posted by Picasa

Yup... a White Belly

Certanily not a yellow belly... while still in the water... he splashed so much he got us all wet... even the computer in the front of the boat! That's why we cut his tail... so he won't pound a hole in the bottom of the boat!... even when they are seemingly dead for hours!... unbelievable raw energy! Posted by Picasa

Guiding: Your Fishing Machine to Glory!

Learning: how, where, when, and what to fish... means a bursting cooler and overwhelming memories!
Do you know what a "neep tide" means? Do you know where to fish on the flood tide... or the ebb tide? (And oh yeah... make sure you read the tide for the day you are going to fish... it is easy to make a mistake... but the fish don't!)
WARNING: these remote waters can be extremely dangerous... at the very least have a good GPS/Mapping system... there are a lot of dangerous shoals, reefs, rocks, in apparent deep water! And also know where to run and hide in case a notorious storm blows up?

Look what we caught at Castle Pt.

Beauties: 27 lb, 12 lb Chinook, and one Happy Customer! Posted by Picasa

My first big one!

Yup... easy, easy does it... I learned not to set the hook... let him run, run... he is dragging the flasher... that easily sets the hook. If not I would have lost another big one, because he was barely hooked. He really tired me out... but I can hardly wait to hook another biggee! Posted by Picasa

Yup Port Hardy is The Best!

I'm so happy and so excited... the best fun I've ever had fishing! Posted by Picasa
